Tour du Mont Blanc Experience

A 7 day walking tour of the Mont Blanc Massif...

Tour du Mont Blanc Experience (7 day trek)

This Tour du Mont Blanc trek is based on the classic, circular trek around the Mont Blanc Massif and tailored to fit a week’s holiday.

The full trek can take around ten days or more but for this trip we will take a more leisurely and comfortable approach and travel from France into Italy and back to France thus completing the southern part of the circuit.

We start in Chamonix and combine an early morning train trip to the Mer de Glace with a walk along the Balcon Nord to pick up the cable car to the summit of the Aiguille du Midi (3,842m) from where we will have fantastic views over the Mont Blanc Massif.

From here we will take the panoramic gondola over the Vallee Blanche to Helbronner in Italy, down to Courmayeur and our hotel for the night. We walk for about three hours on this first day.

Our next two days take us into the hills and give longer treks of about six to eight hours along good tracks as we cross high cols and travel over the border from Italy into France. On both these nights we stay in alpine huts which provide breakfast, dinner and basic accommodation in stunning locations.

The next day is shorter and downhill all the way to the pretty village of Les Contamines-Montjoie where we stay overnight in a hotel before our last day of trekking when we cross the final high col and descend to Les Houches and onto Chamonix.

This leaves one day for us to walk up Le Brevent (2,526m) on the south side of the Chamonix Valley from where the whole panorama of the Mont Blanc Massif can be enjoyed. There is also a cable car to the top if an easier day is desired!

The trek is suitable for those who enjoy walking in the mountains and who have a good level of fitness. Previous trekking experience is not essential.

Accommodation for five nights will be in small, comfortable hotels with two nights spent in alpine huts. Breakfast and dinner are included for seven days.

Transfers to and from Geneva Airport can be arranged.

Our itinerary will be:

  • Day 1 Arrive Chamonix

  • Day 2 Chamonix to Courmayeur

  • Day 3 Courmayeur to Rifugio Elisabetta

  • Day 4 Rifugio Elisabetta to Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme

  • Day 5 Rifugio de la Croix du Bonhomme to Les Contamines Montjoie

  • Day 6 Les Contamines Montjoie to Chamonix

  • Day 7 Chamonix

The cost for the trip is £650 per person with the trip running for a minimum of four people.

The dates for summer 2006 will be announced soon. Watch this space!
